The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has signed a letter of intent with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for a €250 million financing (approximately 2.8 billion dirhams). This program aims to modernize drinking water production infrastructure under the 2025-2030 Equipment Plan. It focuses on improving the technical performance of existing facilities and enhancing their energy efficiency. ONEE is adopting a flexible approach to adapt infrastructure to climate change challenges and evolving operational needs. The financing, guaranteed by SNGFE, will be disbursed in two tranches, accompanied by investment grants and technical assistance. Since 2014, the EBRD has already mobilized €119 million for Morocco's drinking water sector. For Moroccan expats, this news is reassuring: it ensures better water network resilience against water stress, a critical issue for their families back home and for potential investment projects. The agreement was signed during the EBRD Annual Meetings in Riga, Latvia, continuing a long-standing cooperation between the two parties.
